Description

Manuscript letter from Thomas Seymour (1735-1829), Colonel in the Revolutionary War, to Samuel Huntington (1731-1796), signer of the Declaration of Independence and President of the Contintental Congress. Dated 1794. The first section is an appeal for Huntington regarding an issue with land drainage. The postscript concerns fears of a yellow fever outbreak in New Haven, coming just a year after the 1793 outbreak in Philadelphia. "We have it from N Haven today that the yellow fever is very prevalent... the college is dispersed & probably will suspend the Commencement... the symptoms are the same with (?) Phila-fever last year". Signed by Thomas Seymour and another unidentified party. One corner clipped and .5" split along center fold. A few lines of notes from a collector in 1832. Some spots of scarring where letter was removed from scrapbook. 11.5" x 8".
