?
See my eBay store or auction list for other world coin and paper money firsts, such as the world's first titanium coin, world's first mint-colored coin,
world's first modern ringed bimetallic coin,
world's first modern ringed TRImetallic coin,
world's first wooden coin, and world's first and only FAO banknote....
The FAO is part of the United Nations and has worked with over 100 different nations since the 1960s to produce circulating and commemorative coins that encourage good food management. But there is only ONE FAO banknote, produced in 1973 by Jamaica.
The Food and Agriculture Organization had found great success with its coin, medal and stamp series. In the War on Hunger, coins make powerful weapons. This was an experiment to see if banknotes could continue the success of the program.
The original idea was to ask world nations to coin circulation issues with “Grow More Food” themes. As more and more countries mint one or more coins with FAO slogans, the pocket change messages continually encourage people to think about ways that they can increase food production. The coins feature scenes of planting and harvest, food plants from rice to palm trees, animal management and even breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
Selling compilation albums of these fascinating circulation, commemorative and pattern coins to collectors around the world also raised funds for other FAO programs. To date, more than 4 billion coins have been issued.
FAO album number three, called “The Green Album,” is the one with the banknote. It also has 31 coins from nations like Vietnam, Honduras, Egypt, San Marino, Panama, and Swaziland. It’s original issue price was back in 1975. Today it sells at auction for much more. But you don’t have to buy the album to get the banknote because you can buy it here as a stand-alone.
There are half a dozen varieties of this Jamaican note. The FAO version is the toughest to find. ALL Jamaican FAO notes will have signature number 4, that of G. Arthur Brown. The serial number should be black in color.
The other major differences in this variety is a serial prefix of “FA” and the numeral zero, which looks a lot like “FAO,” and the addition of wording on the reverse that reads, “Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948- 10 December – 1973, Toward Food Education Employment for All
Articles 23-26.”
Scanned so you can decide the grade.

Discounted shipping for multiple purchases: If you want discounted shipping, BEFORE paying for your multiple banknote purchases, please look in your eBay “cart.” There is a link there to request a discounted shipping invoice (or you can send me a note through the eBay messaging system). Please pay after receiving your invoice. You can wait three days to pay before the automatic non-paying bidder process kicks in. IF YOU WANT MORE TIME TO BID ON MORE ITEMS, YOU MUST MESSAGE ME before the non-paying bidder process activates.
My Seller FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
Sellers are allowed some customization within their seller policies.
Allergy Note: All lots come from a smoke free and cat free home but pre-owned items may have originated in different conditions.
Cancellations: Anyone canceling more than one bid or requesting the cancellation of more than one purchase within a six-month period will be put on the blocked bidder list permanently out of fairness to all.
Discounted Shipping:
USA shipping only
. I am happy to discount shipping on multiple purchases of similar weight if you message me to request a discounted invoice after your last auction concludes but before payment is sent. Please make this request through your “cart” or the eBay messaging system within 72 hours of the first win. Multiple large fragile items are not usually subject to this option because they often have to ship in separate boxes.
Shipping and Return Policy:
I can only ship to your official eBay address within the USA
(the address that shows up when a seller looks at your eBay ID or tries to send you an invoice)
, no exceptions.
I ship twice a week, usually on Monday and Thursday so
shipping can take up to four days from the time of payment
. Please bear this in mind, as well as the post office transit time estimates, when looking at arrival dates.
You will always receive a tracking number from the eBay shipping system. Oklahoma residents and the residents of most other states are always subject to sales tax.
In more than 20 years, my return policy has not changed.
All sales are final - no returns or refunds unless there is a serious question of authenticity or a gross error in the description.
Refunds are not available for differences regarding banknote, coin and medal grading opinions.
Payment Reminder: eBay automatically cancels a transaction when payment fails to arrive within the required period.
ABOUT FEEDBACK: My top priorities are answering email, writing accurate descriptions and the fastest possible shipping for my schedule. Feedback is important but not my priority. I leave feedback only once or twice a month in large groups to save time.
