Rare 1879 Secretary of state John Hay, Abraham Lincoln secretary Signed Letter. Condition is "Very Good". Shipped with USPS Media Mail.
Letter is directed to Robert Preston Pooley, who was 1834–1908. United States Consul at Sierra Leone and St. Helena. Pooley was a witness of the ceremony to disinter Napoleon’s body for its return to France in 1840
Letter is in great condition. Hays was a personal secretary of Lincoln. He was one of two people who had a draft of the Gettysburg address. This letter is when he was assistant Secretary of State. Very early in his career before he became Secretary of State. No COA provided
John Milton Hay (October 8, 1838 – July 1, 1905) was an American statesman and official whose career in government stretched over almost half a century. Beginning as a private secretary and assistant to Abraham Lincoln, Hay's highest office was United States Secretary of State under Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. Hay was also an author and biographer, and wrote poetry and other literature throughout much of his life.
