This is easily the most crisp, clean New Old Stock example I've ever seen of the most rare model of Sting-Ray speedometer, and in full working order: a great example of the round-dial Schwinn Sting-Ray speedometer by Huret of France, part number 08 431, which appeared for only four years in the Schwinn catalog, from 1969 to 1972. Unlike the much more common chrome rectangular Schwinn Approved speedometers that Huret made all the way from the late 1960s into the early 1990s, this style was seen (in either Schwinn Approved or Sting-Ray form) for four years only, and was gone by 1973. (My completely unscientific guess is that this round, white-dial design was intended to replace the similar round, white-dial, plastic-bodied Stewart Warner-built Schwinn speedometer, which was phased out after 1970.)
The speedometer head is 2½" in diameter and 1½" deep (plus the drive cable connection in back). It has a polished chrome rim, glass face, and painted steel housing, with red numbers on a white dial with a black pointer.
This set was made for a Sting-Ray with 20" front wheel, not a 16" Krate wheel, but this can be adapted for Krate use by replacing the 21½" Sting-Ray drive cable with a 23½" or 24½" Krate cable, and by replacing the 20" drive hub with a 16" drive hub. The speedo head and hardware kit are correct for either bike. (For Manta-Ray use, substitute a 22½" cable and a 24" or 26" drive hub.)
This has been disassembled, cleaned, lubed and rebuilt. Its painted case has been polished and waxed, and its glass lens was cleaned on both sides. The chrome bezel and chrome handlebar clamp have both been polished and waxed. The drive hub has been cleaned and repacked with fresh grease. This set has had a complete going-over, and is all ready to go into service. There is no accumulated mileage

I have gone over this kit in detail, cleaned and polished it where needed, and lubed the mechanism. The box is in exceptional condition. (The inner liner shows a few light folds from trying to extract the speedo head, which is a very tight fit in the cardboard liner.)
It's all complete, bench-tested and ready to install on your vintage Sting-Ray.
