Solid Tonewood Top
The Breedlove Pursuit Companion Cutaway CE acoustic-electric guitar features a solid top, which is the defining element of its sound. Through its vibration, the solid top drives the key aspects of the guitar's volume, tone, sustain and projection. The solid wood top translates the vibrations with more immediacy and purity of tone, and reacts more directly with the intent of a player. If you are at an intermediate level or above, you will appreciate the instantly recognizable benefits of this solid wood top.
Companion Body Shape
Historically, serious players on the move have faced a dilemma: contend with the challenges of carrying a full-size instrument or settle for the less than thrilling sound of a travel guitar. With the Breedlove Pursuit Companion Cutaway CE model, players won’t face that dilemma anymore.
Red Cedar Top
Softer than spruce, with a warmer cast to its look and its tone, Western red cedar has less headroom for a heavy attack, but comes alive—with sweet harmonics and a wide tonal palette—for a lighter touch. Related to mahogany, it shares a focused sound, much loved by fingerstylists.
Mahogany Back & Sides
Long treasured by cabinetmakers and shipwrights for its simple, straight-grained beauty, strength and workability, mahogany—used in tops, backs, sides and necks—is also one of the true classic tonewoods. Famous for its clear, strong fundamental; even string-to-string balance; and warm midrange emphasis, the mahogany back and sides of the Breedlove Pursuit Companion pairs well with the spruce top. The sound produced by this combination has defined much of American roots music.
Breedlove Pinless Delta Bridge
Breedlove’s pinless Delta bridge is a distinctive element, with a sleek, modern contour that adds an extra bit of unexpected beauty to every instrument. But it also adds welcome functionality while anchoring great sound. Beginners love the fact that string changes are much easier without having to wrestle a traditional pin bridge, and professional players love it for the same reason. You'll no longer have to search for lost pins during a fast backstage string swap. And its low profile makes for perfect right hand damping.
The Breedlove Neck
Breedlove guitar necks feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. Unlike traditional dovetail neck joints that require major surgery for a neck re-set, it is easy to adjust the play action and neck angle with the Breedlove bolt-on neck and single-action truss rod. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish contributes to ideal playability. The finish process alone takes three days, including precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.
