Description

blessed mother figurine
vintage «m j hummel»-inspired (and so incise marked on rear side of base) goebel virgin mary/blessed mother/madonna designed by reinhold unger, one of two goebel porzellanfabrik master sculptors who originally based his figurine series on berta hummel's naïve drawings of children and influenced by her sublime pastel color palates. they debuted in 1935 at the leipzig trade fair. originally debuting with 10 models, another 36 were added that year due to demand. my listing is for the model called «madonna without halo». i understand that this model colored with those hummel pastels and in matte porcelain is rare. she has such a beautiful face and is so serene. underside marked 46/0 and  «west germany». a kind ebayer sent me a reference for goebel maker's marks, which would date the madonna to a period between 1960–1972.
